Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute 81600
A few years after reviving the Breitling brand, Ernest Schneider reintroduced the original Navitimer Cosmonaute design with the Cosmonaute 81600. Later versions were updated with references A12019, A12020, and A12022. These models were powered by a hand-wound movement based on the Lemania cal. 1873.
The cases were slightly larger than earlier “classic case” models but retained the signature tapered lugs and contrasting 3/6/9 subdial layout. Unlike previous versions, the caseback was “snap-on,” and there was no date display.
The Cosmonaute 81600 featured hour, minute, and running seconds counters, similar to the early Navitimer. The design included red accents on the dial and slide rule, which was now “sloped,” resembling the Big Case models. Notably, this was the first Cosmonaute to display Breitling’s “Wings & Anchor” logo.
This Cosmonaute is in good condition for its age! Truly a stunning piece of history.
