Ikepod Seaslug GMT Marc Newson Design
Ikepod began in 1993-1994 when Swiss businessman Oliver Ike, who had also worked in the furniture industry, hired designer Marc Newson to create distinctive watches for a new brand. Ike knew Newson from his furniture designs. Newson’s first watch design, the ‘Pod’, was created when he was 23 in 1986. The name ‘Ikepod’ combines Ike’s last name and Newson’s fascination with pod and capsule designs.
The first Ikepod watch was the ‘Sea Slug’, named after the exotic ocean creature, and it was marketed to position the brand as ‘cool’ and ‘different’.
